Spray Painting in Limerick & Clare

Limerick Painting and Decorating provides professional spray painting services for kitchens, doors, staircases and joinery across Limerick, Clare and surrounding areas. Spray painting uses airless or HVLP equipment to lay down paint or lacquer in a fine, controlled mist rather than brushing or rolling it on, which is why kitchen doors and staircases sprayed properly come out with a dead flat, factory style finish that hand painting cannot fully match.

Brush and roller work can leave some texture, whether that is stipple from a roller or faint brush lines in the direction of the stroke, and on kitchen doors or handrails under direct light that texture shows. Spraying atomises the coating into a fine mist that lays flat and level, so mouldings, panel edges and turned spindles all get an even film thickness without pooling in corners or leaving drips on vertical faces.

As overspray travels, every job is either sprayed in a dust controlled booth for items we can remove, such as doors and cabinet fronts. We also fully mask and contain on site for fitted staircases, skirting and built in furniture that cannot be taken away. Floors, worktops, fittings and adjoining rooms are protected from overspray off before a single coat goes down.

We spray water based and 2 pack lacquers in matte, satin, semi gloss and full gloss, along with primers, undercoats and eggshell finishes for doors, skirting, architrave, radiators and staircases. Colours are matched to any RAL, NCS or manufacturer reference you already have.

Our Spray Painting Process

From the first look at your doors or staircase to the final inspection, every spray painting job follows the same four steps.

1. Assessment & Masking Plan

We look at what is being sprayed, whether doors and cabinet fronts can be removed to a booth or a staircase and fitted joinery need to be sprayed in place, and plan the masking and containment before any prep starts.

2. Preparation & Priming

Surfaces are cleaned, sanded between coats, with any old paint, wax or lacquer removed and bare timber or MDF sealed with the correct primer so the topcoat bonds and does not raise the grain.

3. Spray Application

Coats are built up in thin, even passes using airless or HVLP equipment, with drying and de-nibbing time between coats rather than rushing a single heavy application that would run or sag.

4. Inspection & Reassembly

Once the final coat has cured we check for coverage, flow and colour consistency under raking light, then rehang doors, refit ironmongery and remove all masking before handover.

What Our Spray Painting Service Covers

From a single kitchen respray to a full staircase, here is what we take on across Limerick and Clare.

Kitchen Cabinet and Door Respraying

Tired or dated kitchen doors, drawer fronts and end panels are sprayed in a durable lacquer for a fraction of the cost of a full kitchen replacement, in any colour or sheen level you choose.

Internal and External Doors

Panelled and flush doors are sprayed off the hinges wherever possible for a fully even finish on faces, edges and mouldings, including fire doors and glazed doors.

Staircases, Spindles and Handrails

Turned spindles, newel posts and handrails are notoriously slow to brush by hand. Spraying gets an even coat into every profile without the drips and pooling that brush work often leaves on vertical spindles.

Skirting Boards and Architrave

Long runs of skirting and architrave are sprayed for a consistent, mark free finish, with adjoining walls, floors and carpets fully masked and protected first.

Radiators and Cast Iron Features

Radiators and period cast iron features are sprayed in heat resistant finishes that flow into fins and grilles far more evenly than a brush can reach.

Fitted and Freestanding Furniture

Wardrobes, media units and freestanding furniture are sprayed on site or removed to our booth, giving a smooth factory style finish on flat panels and detailed trim alike.

New Build Joinery and MDF Trim

Bare MDF skirting, architrave and door linings on new builds are primed to seal the exposed edges and stop them drinking topcoat unevenly, then sprayed for a crisp, factory finish.

Garden Furniture, Gates and Fencing

Timber and metal garden furniture, gates and railings are sprayed in exterior grade finishes for even coverage across turned or detailed profiles that brushing struggles to reach.

Lacquers and Equipment Built For A Durable Finish

We use HVLP spray equipment for fine detail work like spindles, mouldings and furniture, where control and a fine finish matter more than speed, and airless equipment for larger runs such as skirting, walls or garden fencing where coverage speed matters more. Water based lacquers dry to touch within an hour and can be recoated the same day, while 2 pack lacquers give a harder, more chemical resistant finish that suits kitchen doors and high traffic woodwork but need longer between coats and a longer final cure before the surface is fully hard. Spraying is a controlled process rather than a fast one: thin coats, proper flash off time between them, and a stable, dust free environment matter more to the final result than the speed of the spray gun itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Spraying atomises the paint or lacquer into a fine mist that lays down flat and level, so there is no brush stroke texture or roller stipple in the finish. It also gets even coverage into mouldings, panel edges and turned details that are slow and difficult to cut in evenly by hand, which is why most kitchen doors, staircases and fine joinery are sprayed rather than brushed.

Where possible we remove doors, drawer fronts and end panels to spray them in a dust controlled booth, which gives the most even finish and the least disruption to your kitchen. Anything that cannot be removed, such as fitted staircases or built in units, is sprayed on site with the surrounding area fully masked and contained.

No. Before any spraying starts we sheet off floors, worktops, fittings and adjoining rooms, and use physical barriers or a portable spray booth to contain overspray. On larger jobs we plan the masking as its own step before prep even begins, since containment matters as much as the spraying itself.

Water based lacquers are usually dry to the touch within an hour and safe to handle gently the same day, though full hardness takes longer. Two pack lacquers give a harder, more durable finish but need more time between coats and a longer cure before the surface can take normal wear, so we will give you a realistic timeline based on the product used before the job starts.

All three, along with semi gloss and full gloss. We spray water based and 2 pack lacquers in whatever sheen level suits the job, and can match the finish across doors, skirting and trim so everything in a room looks consistent rather than mismatched.

Yes. We can match to an existing colour, a RAL or NCS reference, or a specific manufacturer’s shade, and we will confirm the match on a sample before spraying the full job so there are no surprises on the day.

It depends on the job. Spraying kitchen doors is usually cheaper than a full kitchen replacement and often comparable to a careful brush respray once you account for the smoother, faster result. For staircases, skirting and detailed joinery, spraying typically costs a bit more than a basic brush job because of the masking and containment involved, but it gives a noticeably better finish for that extra step.
